Orthopaedic Center Breaks Ground
Jan. 24 for New Loveland Facility

The Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies is breaking ground on Saturday, Jan. 24, for construction of its new Loveland building on U.S. 34.

Work is scheduled to begin Jan. 26 on the facility, which includes the Orthopaedic Center’s medical practice, x-ray and therapy (rehabilitation) departments.

The construction schedule calls for Orthopaedic Center physicians and staff to occupy the new building and begin patient appointments in early December. Until then, patients will continue to have appointments at the Orthopaedic Center’s current Loveland office, 2923 Ginnala Drive.

“Breaking ground is a symbolic milestone for the project, which we started four years ago,” said Dr. Michael Houghton, president of the Orthopaedic Center’s board. “We’re very excited to get the work underway. Our new campus will offer patients from Loveland and the region state-of-the-art orthopaedics in a very convenient location and comfortable setting.”

With the increasing patient demand in recent years, the practice had outgrown its current office on 29th Street, which it built in 1997. The new building will encompass 37,000 square feet, making it about three times the size of the current office. This increased space will eventually allow 12 physicians to have patient appointments at one time, compared to five doctors in the current building.

“The larger building will help us keep up with present and future growth, and allow us to offer additional orthopaedic specialty and therapy services to Loveland and the region,” Mike Bergerson, the Orthopaedic Center’s chief executive officer, said.

The new location is central to McKee Medical Center, Medical Center of the Rockies, and Skyline Surgery Center. Patients from the practice’s four-state service area will find easy access to the new office from the interchange of I-25 and U.S. 34.

The building will sit on a 7.68 acre site in Boyd Lake Village, which the Orthopaedic Center purchased in July 2008 from Dando Development. The site is in the 3300 block of East Eisenhower Boulevard (U.S. 34), directly north of Mountain View High School. The Neenan Company is the designer/builder for the project.

The Orthopaedic Center and patients will continue to use the building at 2923 Ginnala Drive under a lease from Banner Health, which purchased that property five weeks ago.

The Orthopaedic Center’s Fort Collins property at 2500 E. Prospect Road has a medical clinic, surgery center, overnight recovery center, x-ray and therapy departments, and MRI scanner. The practice comprises 22 physicians – 17 surgeons, a podiatrist, and four primary care sports medicine specialists. Additional doctors are scheduled to be added in the next five years.
