OCR Limits New Medicaid Patients
as State Runs Out of Money for Program

Effective immediately, the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies physicians have decided to stop accepting most -- but not all -- new Colorado Medicaid patients.

OCR's policy includes this limit on new patients and “update” patients (prior patients with new health concerns).

There are several exceptions to OCR's new policy, and the OCR doctors will continue to provide care for:

  • New and “update” Medicaid patients who are 24 months old or younger.
  • All Colorado Medicaid patients whom they provided care for in a hospital ER.
  • All Medicaid patients who need an appointment for a severe fracture, dislocation, or tendon laceration

Any current Colorado Medicaid member under OCR’s care (doctor or PA) will continue to remain an active patient at OCR until their health concern is resolved or their treatment plan is completed.

The OCR physicians made this decision because the Colorado Medicaid program notified us that it is out of funds for fiscal year 2009/2010 which ends June 30, 2010.  Once the State of Colorado resumes payments for fiscal year 2010/2011 in July, the OCR physicians may revisit our Colorado Medicaid policy.
