Dr. Kirk Kindsfater is a  board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who sees patients in our Fort Collins, CO office. He specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery.

A native of Eaton, CO, Dr. Kindsfater joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies in 1995 after completing his fellowship (advanced) training in joint replacement surgery at Harvard School of Medicine and Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.

During his practice at OCR, Dr. Kindsfater has performed more than 9,000 hip and knee replacements. His current reconstruction practice has grown to be one of the busiest in Colorado and the nation; he takes care of more than 1,200 joint replacement patients a year. He performs 800 knee replacement and 400 hip replacement surgeries a year for patients.

Dr. Kindsfater offers both advanced polyethylene and hard-on-hard bearing surfaces when performing hip replacement surgery. Both high performance fixed and rotating platform bearings are offered when knee replacement surgery is required. These bearing surfaces may lead to the potential for significantly improved longevity of the joint replacement.

Dr. Kindsfater is also actively involved in medical research in new technologies and improvements in the field of joint replacement surgery. In addition, he is utilized as a consultant by major orthopaedic companies for both product development and to educate other orthopaedic surgeons in new technologies and surgical techniques. He has presented research findings at international orthopaedic meetings held in Belgium, Hawaii, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Kindsfater has also lectured internationally, including educational presentations to fellow surgeons in Rome and Mexico City in recent years.

He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; he holds board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Kindsfater takes care of patients from OCR's service area of northern Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska, as well as from other parts of the U.S. ranging from New York to California and Montana.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kindsfater enjoys spending time with his family.
