The Insurance Coordinator Team Lead acts as a subject matter expert to guide a team of Insurance Coordinators who primarily manage all aspects pertaining to revenue collection for their assigned insurance payers and/or patient populations. Additionally, an Insurance Coordinator Team Lead provides training for new and existing team members, while communicating and making recommendations to their Manager on workflow, equipment issues, and team member or patient requests and concerns. An Insurance Coordinator Team Lead must have the ability to assist with managing the accounts receivable for assigned carriers or patient populations as needed to support the team as well manage escalated concerns from team members and patients. The Insurance Coordinator Team Lead will need to have the ability to meet with patients regarding their insurance eligibility and benefits, answer questions related to outstanding account balances, as well as process payment and set-up appropriate payment arrangements that are in compliance with established protocol.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Team Lead is a subject matter expert for their team. They provide process training for new and existing team members, oversees and ensures coverage for lunches/breaks/absences, and communicates and makes recommendations to their Manager/Director on workflow, equipment issues, patient requests or concerns, etc.
  • Creates and maintains up-to-date reference materials on respective insurance rules and regulations and obtains a concise understanding of these regulations for assigned insurance carriers to ensure complete compliance with all insurance rules and regulations for assigned insurance carriers.
  • Audits Insurance Coordinator work as needed per the direction of their Manager and communicates with Manager to help resolve any errors.
  • Investigates claim denials, claim suspensions, data entry errors, and severe reductions in reimbursement promptly while exercising all available options for corrective action to obtain payment.
  • Prepares adjustments, as needed, for assigned insurance carriers and submits to the supervisor weekly for approval.
  • Communicates all concerns, risk management issues, breakdown in protocols and constructive criticism to supervisor. Follows chain-of-command established by supervisor when addressing protocol issues outside of Business Office service line.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum one year experience as Insurance Coordinator at OCR.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Core competencies in quality, detail oriented, communication, teamwork, and confidentiality

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is the typical office environment. The employee must be able to complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including staff, patients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls for up to 8 hours per day. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
