The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic testing by taking images of patient’s bodies using computerized MRI scanners.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI imaging procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.
  • Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into the computer.
  • Prepares patient for the imaging process, which can include completing the Patient Screening form, taking a medical history, and explaining the procedure to the patient. Properly positions the patient on the MRI machine to get the correct images; which can include lifting or moving disabled patients while maintaining proper patient care, comfort and safety throughout the exam. Demonstrates the use of a microphone that allows patients and technologists to communicate during the examination.
  • Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjusts transmitters and receivers into the computer. Adjusts the equipment as necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree from a certified Radiologic Technology program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging procedures performed, specific experience with orthopedics a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and similar computer applications.
  • Valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification, required.
  • Certification in MRI Technology, required.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, required.
  • Core competencies in communication, quality product output, and confidentiality.
  • Position requires acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage. Ability to travel between all OCR locations.

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is a typical medical office environment. The employee must be able to complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including staff, patients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others. The position is occasionally exposed to minimal radiation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls up to 8 hours per day. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear up to 8 hours per day. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl up to 8 hours a day.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. The employee will regularly assist patients in turning; will frequently assist patient in arising from exam table; will frequently push wheelchair patients; and frequently assists patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or bed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
