The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating/assessing needs of referred patients and formulating treatment plans. This position provides therapy services defined in treatment plans and works cooperatively with physicians, case managers, and adjustors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluates the extent of the patient’s disabilities to determine appropriate treatment programs.
  • Administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment on patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint, and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.
  • Reviews physician’s referral (prescription) and patient’s condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.
  • Records treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart or enters information into computer.
  • Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Uses a variety of tests, such as manual muscle test, goniometry, functional testing, and gait analysis in the treatment programs.
  • Plans therapy programs and administers treatment to restore body function and strength, relieve pain and prevent disability.
  • Utilizes various therapeutic techniques such as exercise programs, facilitation techniques, muscle reeducation, gait training, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy.
  • Utilizes various equipment and prosthetic and orthotic devices in the treatment programs. Provides demonstrations and instruction to the patient on how to use equipment.
  • Maintains medical records of evaluation, treatment, and progress of each patient.
  • Maintains therapy proficiency by keeping up-to-date of new orthopaedic procedures and therapy techniques.
  • Participates in workshops, seminars, and other applicable continuing education opportunities.
  • Promotes learning by staying attuned to trends and developments in therapy, especially as they relate to orthopaedics.
  • Works with other OCR employees in a team environment to promote efficiency and positive outcomes.
  • Serves as a professional representative of OCR. Participates in marketing and promotion of OCR.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • One year previous orthopaedic and manual therapy experience, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Licensed Physical Therapist within the state of Colorado. Must be in good standing.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, required.

Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager; follows precedents and procedures and may set priorities and organizes work within general guidelines established by supervisor/manager.
 
Supervisory Expectations
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
 
Travel Requirements
Position requires acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage. Ability to travel between all OCR locations.

  • The work environment is the typical medical office environment. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will regularly assist patients in turning and arising from exam table; will regularly push wheelchair patients; and regularly assists patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or bed.
