Recovery Center Manager

The Recovery Center Registered Nurse is responsible for total nursing care of all post-surgical patients admitted to either the centers convalescent beds; he/she provides nursing care through therapeutic, rehabilitative and preventive regimes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Directly supervises one or more employees. Responsible for hiring, planning, monitoring and taking corrective action when necessary, including termination. Addresses concerns with staff to ensure a positive work environment. Works closely with Director on personnel issues, escalating as appropriate.
  • Supervises post-operative nursing care as well as patient care within each recovery room to provide immediate and professional quality of care.
  • Develops schedules for the recovery room suite, and ensures proper levels of staffing of professional personnel (Registered Nurses, Certified Nurse Assistants, etc.) during post-surgical recovery. Utilizes staff efficiently to maintain or improve established man hours per patient.
  • Coordinates activities with OR and Nurse Managers to ensure effective communication and smooth patient flow.
  • Assists in the development and/or revision of policies and procedures in collaboration with the Leadership Team and submits to the Director of Nursing for review.
  • Assists Director of Nursing with ordering of supplies and special equipment for the Recovery Center while containing costs.
  • Communicates directly with physicians regarding their preferences for patient care and patient teaching.
  • Serves as liaison and resource person for Recovery Center staff.
  • Monitors patient satisfaction (through use of surveys) to evaluate patient care and service provided in Recovery Center.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Participates in Quality Assessment Performance Indicators (QAPI) and other various committees established by the leadership team.
  • Pursues professional growth by sharing knowledge, attending, and being involved in professional organizations.
  • Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to Recovery Center team members and other team members as appropriate.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of all Recovery Center staff with the Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains personnel and other direct expenses within unit budgetary expectations.
  • Assures proper maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Uses effective conflict resolution techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree from an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) program.
  • Two years’ experience in orthopedic nursing environment.
  • Demonstrated dedication to patient safety, comfort and satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current nursing practices and protocols including appropriate assessment, examination and treatment (including medication, infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies). Knowledge of all procedures performed at OCR (i.e. equipment, supplies, etc.) a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business, teamwork, and supervision theories and methods.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Valid Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license. Must provide proof of license and be in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, encouraged.

Independence of Action

Supervisory Expectations

Directly supervises one or more employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel Requirements 

Position requires acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage. Ability to travel between all OCR locations.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 170 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. The employee will assist patients (170 pound avg) in turning and sitting in bed on a daily basis; will regularly assist patient in arising from gurney/bed and transferring to chair; will regularly push wheelchair patients; and regularly assists patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or bed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
