OCR Welcomes Joint Replacement Specialist, Dr. Robert Matar
Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies (OCR) is pleased to welcome Dr. Robert N. Matar, to its total joint surgery team. Matar specializes in adult reconstruction, including hip and knee replacement surgery, and brings advanced clinical training, extensive research background and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
“During my training, I found myself gravitating toward hip and knee reconstruction because it combines everything I love about surgery. The precision, problem-solving, and a real technical craft with an outcome you can actually see and measure. It is not abstract. You watch someone go from barely able to get out of a chair to hiking a trail again,” said Matar.
Matar completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center, where he received specialized training in the evaluation and surgical treatment of hip and knee conditions. Before his fellowship, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
“Dr. Matar’s advanced training and thoughtful approach to patient care will make him a tremendous addition to our total joint surgery team,” said Dr. Dana Clark, OCR total joint surgeon. “He brings a strong foundation in adult reconstruction, an impressive commitment to research and a genuine desire to help patients return to the activities that matter most to them.”
Matar earned his medical degree from Central Michigan University College of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Science in physiology from the University of Michigan Medical School and a bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology from the University of Michigan.
Throughout his education and training, Dr. Matar has remained actively involved in orthopedic research. He has contributed to nearly 30 peer-reviewed publications addressing topics across joint replacement, orthopedic trauma, sports medicine, pain management, and patient-reported outcomes. His work has also been presented at numerous regional and national orthopedic meetings.
His accomplishments include receiving the Orthopedic Trauma Association’s Resident Paper Memorial Award for best scientific paper and recognition from the Ohio Orthopedic Society. During medical school, Matar was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in compassionate clinical care, leadership, and service.

Matar is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is fluent in English, Arabic and Spanish, he is committed to helping patients understand their treatment options and feel confident throughout every stage of their care.
