The Foot & Ankle
The human foot is a flexible structure made up of 26 bones, as well as a number of joints, muscles, and other soft tissue.
Muscles, tendons, and ligaments run along the surfaces of the feet, allowing the complex movements needed for motion and balance. The Achilles tendon connects the heel to the calf muscle and is essential for running, jumping, and standing on the toes.
The ankle bone and the ends of the two lower leg bones make up the ankle joint. Ligaments connect the bones to each other and stabilize it. Muscles and tendons provide movement for the ankle.
