The 15th Annual Total Joint Surgery Virtual Walk Was a Success!

We are pleased to share the results from our 15th annual Total Joint Surgery Walk which celebrated the accomplishments of all patients who have had hip, knee, or ankle joint replacement surgery and are back to moving as they used to.

While normally the walk is held on the Spring Creek Trail, directly behind the Fort Collins OCR Campus, this year we invited patients to join in virtually to encourage safe social distancing and allow for patients to participate on their preferred path at their own pace. Taking place throughout the entire month of September, this year’s walk marked our first-ever fully virtual event and was made available to all patients with free registration.
With the all-new virtual approach, we utilized the free STRAVA Fitness Tracker App for mobile devices. Participants joined the ‘OCR 2020 Joint Walk Club’ to record their walks in the app alongside fellow walkers. As a result, the walk garnered more than 600 OCR patients in participation who collectively logged nearly 1,000 miles.
“Grateful for new hips and a practice that cares that we are out there using them!” an OCR patient participant commented on the Club’s page.
All participants who shared photos of their walk on social media using the hashtag #OCR2020JointWalk were entered to win weekly and daily prizes, such as an iPad, OtterBox Cooler, The North Face Backpack, and more. This year, we also gave away 500 t-shirts for free to the first 500 people who registered for the virtual walk.
“As specialists in the medicine of motion, we remained committed to making our 15th annual Joint Walk event possible,” said Carli Taylor-Drake, director of marketing & practice development at OCR. “While we were unable to physically be together this year, we came together virtually. The virtual event was a complete success and the overwhelming turnout in celebration and support of each other’s achievements illustrates just how united our incredible community truly is.”
