A Data Analyst is responsible for compiling and organizing data from diverse sources, as well as performing varied analyses to build and interpret reports for management in an accurate and timely manner. This position will have a focus on revenue cycle data pertinent to medical practices such as charges, payments, adjustments, and related areas. This role also involves investigating and evaluating insurance contracts, performing contract and payment variance analysis, as well as the maintenance of assigned databases or systems to ensure the integrity of financial data and the organization’s insurance contract portfolio. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, an analytical mindset, and have a solid foundation in medical billing and revenue cycle operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiles data from multiple sources in various formats to organize and clean data, analyze statistics, and prepare reports necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in logical reasoning and data analysis to effectively filter through data to highlight pertinent elements for the designated project. Identifies outliers and trends, presenting both data and analysis outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Produces monthly or bi-weekly financial reports, as well as ad hoc reports as needed, which facilitate management’s ability to oversee and analyze operations effectively.
  • Maintains assigned databases and reports to ensure their integrity and accuracy for use in financial reporting, contract analysis and payment variance reporting.
  • Utilizes modeling and analysis techniques to asses insurance payer contract reimbursement providing feedback to management and illustrating the potential effects of contract negotiations.
  • Collaborates with management and staff of various departments to assist with financial data gathering and/or interpretation of reports, while offering instruction on accessible financial tools and resources, equipping non-financial staff with the knowledge to simplify analysis into easily understandable terms.
  • Assists in the identification and implementation of operating improvements and efficiencies by identifying important trends and variances through the review of reports and financial analysis.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area including personal area, computer room and record storage area.
  • Communicates all concerns, risk management issues, breakdown in protocol and constructive criticisms to supervisor.
  • Required to follow OCR and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. Focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • One or more years of experience with health care practice management systems is preferred.
  • Requires strong knowledge of statistical analysis & data interpretation, as well as the ability to self-direct and identify best practices for utilizing data from several different systems in different formats.
  • Advanced proficiency in database and spreadsheet applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, to include strong understanding of Excel formulas and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of financial modeling techniques used to generate management reports, projections, and analyses.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities with changing needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with both internal and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is the typical office environment. The employee must be able to complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including staff, patients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls up to 8 hours per day. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
